ELEVEN PEOPLE YOU COME ACROSS AT CONCERTS

April 29, 2015

I was at the Walk The Moon in at Lupos Providence, Rhode Island last week and I had one of those "novel" ideas that someone has probably thought of before, but in that moment it seems so new to you. I remember saying to my friends, "Guys, someone should make a buzzfeed listical of all the different types of people you meet at concerts, you know, the normal characters." My friends responded the usual "YASSSS." I was so pumped about my novel ideas until Google ruined my dreams, there were already tons of lists just like this out there. However, I will continue with my idea. Here is my list of the eleven types of characters you come across at concerts.

1. The "My friends are up there"

Yeah, and I'm the queen of France.

2. The parent that doesn't want to be there

Anything to ensure their child's safety, though. You don't know what kind of crazy people you meet at concerts. They should have just read this blog post.

3. The parents that are more into it than everyone else

All that begging for the aux cord in their car finally paid off.

4. The people that just met

This interaction can go two ways: they're making lifelong friends or are trying to make a new romance.

5. The too tall guy in front of you

If you're short, it's inevitable.

6. The unfortunately short people

See above...

7. The awkward couple

That doesn't stop smooching and cuddling.

8. Those who would rather watch the whole concert through their phone screen than their eyes

Watch out for their documentary of the concert on YouTube recorded through an iPhone.

9. The overly dedicated fans who made their own tee shirts

The aisles of the nearest Michaels has never looked the same since.

10. The head-bobber

It's easier than tapping your foot!

11. The boyfriend who just doesn't want to be there.

But his girlfriend was sooooooooo excited when he bought her tickets for her birthday!

DailyLook LBD Style Challenge

April 19, 2015

Eeep! As a blogger, you have one of those defining moments when a company/website you love contacts you. I just had mine with DailyLook! They asked me to use one of their LBD dresses to style a spring look and enter my Style Set in their competition.

Dailylook does my dream job every single day - they put outfits together for fun. I always turn to them when I'm in need of some outfit inspiration.

An LBD is obviously a staple in many women's closets', however I feel like I haven't really gotten myself a good LBD. I was browsing DailyLook's LBD section and I fell in love with the different ways DL thinks of an LBD. There was fringe, lace, maxi, mini - everything. I chose the Glamorous Patchwork Fringe Dress as my dress to base my outfit off of.

1429221236_dl-127884-black-v0 Dl-125634-olive-v0 Dl-120255-black-v0 Dl-126168-tan-v0 Dl-87588_v0

The inspiration behind this look is if I was going to Boston Calling. The lineup is just "eh" to me this year, so I've decided not to go. However, I would definitely rock this LBD if I went.

For concerts and music festivals, it's always a struggle figuring out what to wear. However, festivals are also a land of fashion freedom. A music festival would be a great step in integrating LBDs into my daily life. I styled this with ankle socks and booties, a tan leather backpack, and a gorgeous army green lapel jacket. Backpacks are a MUST for music festivals, and last year it was cold and rainy at Boston Calling, so the jacket would come in handy if this year is a repeat.

THE 5 STAGES OF A POP SONG'S LIFE

December 04, 2014

Pop music - we can't live with it, can't live without it.  When a new song comes on the radio it somehow rises from background noise, to a jam, to the most annoying song, ever. How exactly does this transformation occur? After surveying a few of my friends, we've complied a list of the "five stages of a pop song's life."

1. Awareness

Sometimes you go bouts without listening to the radio, or you hear a song on a TV show or commercial but you just haven't gotten around to downloading it yet  - that's what I call the "awareness" stage. If you heard the song you'd remember some lyrics, but you haven't learned the name of it yet.

2. Intrigue

Finally, the intrigue kills you and you do your research. Shazam or SoundHound leads you to the mysterious song you've been jamming to and it's added to your iTunes library.

3. Acceptance

Perhaps you like it soooo much that you've decided it's not all the bubblegum stuff they play on the radio and you really like it. If it is the typical radio stuff, embrace it shamelessly, roll down the windows and jam out. You've accepted the newest hit.
4. Obsession
That one windows-down jam session turned into a daily occurrence. When you're with your friends, you play it and scream it on the from the top of your lungs. You started to hashtag tweets jokingly like the lyrics are relevant to your life. "My mom went shopping without me #TheHoesAintLoyal",  "I only like big booty hoes #MyAncacondaDon't".

5. Annoyance

After the fun has subsided, and the radio stations haven't gotten the hint that the song is sooo last month, the annoyance sets in. You've become disgusted with everything that has to do with the song and the artist, and flip by it when it comes up on your iTunes, radio, or streaming. However, it'll be forever buried in your "top 25 most played" grave of regret.

LINKUP: MUSIC MONDAYS WITH "My So-Called Chaos"

July 14, 2014

Link-ups are a fabulous way in the bloggersphere for us bloggers to interact and mingle. It's like happy hour but with blog posts! This monday I thought I'd join in on Angie of mysocalledchaos.com's Music Monday link-up!

Every summer I make a new playlist. It can consist of songs that remind me of that summer, songs that I discovered that summer, and songs that just sound summer-y. For example "Summer" by Calvin Harris, duh! My music listening habits depend on who I see in concert. So far I've seen Paramore, Fall Out Boy, New Politics, The Front Bottoms, and Say Anything. I've been jamming to new and old Fall Out Boy and Paramore, and The Front Bottoms.
Here's a screenshot of my current Summer 2k14 playlist:

As you can see it's a mix of pop-punk, indie, folk, country, pop, and a favorite genre of mine I like to call "The Fault In Our Stars Soundtrack".

However the link-up wants me to choose one song I'm feeling specifically.. ahh this is so hard. I choose....

Thunder Clatter by Wild Cub

I chose this song because it's a little folk-y and a little dance-y. That's how I like my music (i.e. Two Door Cinema Club/The Wombats). I'm a sucker for more than one voices singing at the same time. Any song that I can imagine driving around on a summer night to, I'm all for it.

Stay tuned for a blog post about my trip to London!

REVIEW: BOSTON CALLING MUSIC FESTIVAL DAY 1

May 25, 2014

I believe that nothing in this life is just a coincidence. In this post I will explain an example in my life that proves this, I'm writing this on a flight to Florida, my family and i are taking a vacation in gorgeous Key West this week. (Well, I hear it's gorgeous.) If you guessed that I'm running on little to no sleep, and hat I had a very stressful and early morning, you guessed right. However, I couldn't be happier right now.

The spring lineup for Boston Calling seems amazing, and I was so bummed about not going to see all of it. At first, I was so bummed about missing Bastille, Brand New, The Neighbourhood, the Head and the Heart, and more because of me being in Florida this weekend, but I may have discovered a favorite new artist of mine! So, my friend Ashley and I opted to just buy tickets for Friday night, where Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and Jack Johnson were playing.

At first I was less than thrilled, only knowing a few key Edward Sharpe songs and even fewer Jack Johnson songs. I also wasn't excited to have a late night followed by an early morning.

However right when you least expect it, life surprised you. Experiencing a concert in City Hall Plaza on a cool spring evening in my favorite city was just what I needed.

The set was so cool, with the big city hall steps, Coachella-esque stages, and the city lights. The crowd for the most part was chill, and the hilarious drunk people around us was enough entertainment for me.

But the music was the highlight! I like to listen to loud music on occasion, but I'm also a huge fan of folk. Tonight gave me a bigger appreciation for folk. The swaying crowd of shoulder sitters, singalongs, and flower crowns put me in a trance. Side note, I DID have the best and biggest flower crown there.

I'm also kicking myself for not listening to Jack Johnson! Just like a drunk girl exclaimed behind me, his music makes me so happy. I know that he's going to be my most abused iTunes Radio station.

Until the fall, Boston Calling.

Oh, in case you were wondering, here's the fall lineup:

10x10= ONE HUNDRED: 100 =Things I Love Including You!

April 30, 2014

Since September 2012, I've gone through many changes and grown so much. I changed my school (well, college), my hair color twice, my hair length, my relationship status, my car, my house, sadly not my phone, my running shoes, and many more. LIFESTYLE: THE POWER OF BEING ALONE

April 18, 2014

As the spring an summer sun approaches, being outside becomes more and more of a daily activity. Walking downtown or to the park with friends can be a great time, however I’m a firm believer in the power of “me-time.” I’m not afraid to to the park alone.
As humans, we all need down time. We will go crazy if we’re constantly doing errands, work, or writing e-mails. We need that idle time to calm our minds and keep that creative juice, well, juice-ing. One of my favorite writers and Marketing professionals CC Chapman once said we must learn to idle well.
How we idle all depends on our personalities. Extroverts idle fine while being with others, it doesn’t tire them out too much being with others. However when introverts go out with others they’re exhausted when they come home because, even if this sounds horrible, social interaction tires them out.
No matter if we’re introverts or extroverts, the most valuable bonding time we need is with ourselves. If we don’t spend time independently, we’ll never learn to think independently. Part of “finding who we are” is spending time alone to just think, or not think. Do we order the same food and drink when we’re alone that we do when we’re with company? Do we possess the Mean Girls mentality while shopping? (“You wouldn’t buy something without having others plastics approve first, right?”) I’m almost the opposite when it comes to that. This sounds horrible, I know, but I mainly only trust magazines or Bloggers/Youtube Gurus for fashion advice. If I ask my friends if they like something and they don’t I’ll go ahead and buy it. I know what I like, and if I feel good and confident in it, I’m going to rock it. You’re shopping for yourselves, not your friends.
Picture from weheartit.com
That tangent aside, I just like to stress the important of taking drives by yourself just to drive, or taking a walk with only you and your headphones. Of course I absolutely love hanging out with my friends and family. If you’re close enough to someone, then hanging out with only them can feel like alone time.
Me time can be the most productive and soothing of the week. Try to fit in 5 minutes of absolute silence a day, and a bit of “me time” every week. Even going to Starbucks with a friend but you're both on your laptops can count. As a matter of fact, I'm doing that exaclty with my roommate right now. And no, G-Mail can not be your date. However Netflix can be, he’s way more cute than G-Mail.

PS -- working out the best me-time you can give yourself.

REVIEW: TDCC In Boston!

October 09, 2013

Two Door Cinema Club, a four-piece Irish Indie Rock band, has been blazing the indie music scene since their start in 2007. However it wasn’t until the hits “What You Know” and “I Can Talk” gained success on their debut album “Tourist History” things started to pick up. Now they’re headlining an tour across America and spent two nights in Boston this past weekend, October 5th and 6th at The Royale nightclub.

They must have felt home with Boston’s overload of cozy pubs, because at the end of their set they thanked us for welcoming them so warmly to our lovely city. Being the gracious hosts they are, they chose two amazing up and coming indie bands to open for them. I can foresee these bands picking up fame as fast as TDCC did.

The first band was “Small Pools”. I loved how young and upbeat they were. Everyone usually just watched the opening acts unenthusiastically, waiting for the main event to go down. However, I was in no way passively watching this band perform. They played all of the songs off their self-titled ep. My personal favorite was an upbeat indie pop song called “Mason Jar”. The announced that once they get home they will be working on an album. I would definitely check it out to have summer jams to cruise around in my car.

The second band was “St. Lucia”, a five-piece band, including a girl on the keyboard, with a new wave, electric sound reminiscent of the band “The Shins”. With an 80’s era sound, they sure got the crowd involved.
Inline image 2
Finally the main event, Two Door Cinema Club. I was too excited to sit still! They graced the stage well dressed and hair slicked back like the stylish Irish men they are. Flashing lights made the stage look like a rave and the wonderful indie rock filled the Royale. The y played some of my favorites including “Something Good Can Work”, “This is the Life” and even a song I was pleasantly surprised to hear, “Under Cover Martyn”. For an hour and a half I was on cloud nine. I would definitely say I am pleased with this being my first time seeing them, and would for sure see them again. They’re just going to keep growing in fame.

Lifestyle: What Inspires You?

April 14, 2013

Inspiration boards are a fun way to collect your thought and inspire your life. It's basically taking your thoughts, your future plans, your favorites, even your memories and posting them on your wall. When you think about it - it's pretty intimate. But to me, it's an inspiring thing to look at when I hit a block. Not only it is great for the mind, but it's a great addition to your wall. I lovelovelove collages. Will you be updating your inspiration board when you do spring cleaning?
What's on yours? Mine is filled with fringed bikinis, tye-dye vans, hi-lo dresses, fitspo, lacrosse puns, starbucks, and the wonder years. My spring favorites, basically!

Also, since I'm still rearranging and cleaning my room, I found a cute way to organize all of my books and shoes. This was I can conceptualize my outfit, makeup, and now shoes all without having to leave my room. I am in LOVE with how my shoes are displayed on this beautiful bookshelf I found at a thrift store for only $40.

Love it? Hope you enjoyed this quick post - a Pacsun/American Eagle/ Bare Essentials haul is coming your way. Here's a preview:

Happy spring cleaning!
