This is different than most other OOTDs I’ve done on here. This is a business casual themed OOTD. That’s only because I attended a conference where I had to dress between business casual and business formal. What’s the difference? It’s a fluid definition; the two are hard to differentiate. If you infer from context, you could probably tell that business casual is less dressy than business formal, and should be worn when attending more serious professional events. For most days of conference, everyone wore business casual clothes. For the career and internship fair, people dressed for formal to impress employers at big-time agencies across the globe. Here’s what I wore day to day.

LIFESTYLE: BAD JUJU TO GOOD VIBES

I'm a big fan of being more productive in a more organized environment. If I look around at a messy room and I have homework, I get stressed because I not only have to clean that mess, but I also have to do homework. (ugh). I'm also a firm believer that organization does not have to involve a huge upkeep. If you have a well-organized system, it should stay clean itself practically. If there's a spot for everything, and everything goes in its dedicated spot, then why should there be a mess? I know this sounds a lot easier than it is, I've learned that from having my friends parade in and out of my dorm room. Can't help that I'm so popular! (Mean Girls!)

However, I was experiencing unhappiness, unproductiveness, and just all-around bad juju in my room at home because of the unruliness of my bureau and my bed-side table. I should have taken before and after pictures, honestly. The top of my bureau was a place for keepsakes, trophies, foreign coins, prayer cards, headbands... trash... a lamp..  and a flower crown... essentially a mess. What started off with good intentions ended up being a free for all. My bedside table was for candles, my phone charger, my contacts, glasses, and prescriptions. The same happened there.

I have plans of redoing my room this summer, so that when I move in either an on or off campus apartment, I'll have one main set of decorations, pictures, and furniture. I also want to upgrade from a preppy/pop punk vibe (yikes) to a boho chic vibe. I took my first steps this weekend by reorganizing these two problem spaces with two table runners, a pedestal, and a metal box.

This is the final product. The top table runner is from Pottery Barn. I didn't realize how pricey it is there. The pedestal on top is from Marshalls. The bureau has a regal-boho vibe. It makes me feel important and chill. Not to mention, the pedestal goes well with my lamp that has similar hanging beads on it! Pictures of the lamp are below. I'm pretty sure I used a place mat for my bedside table. The place mat and metal box are both from Marshalls. Although my glasses, lotions, etc are all jammed in there, it's better than them being sprawled out all over the table. 


I've never been a practicer of Feng Shui, but this arrangement makes me feel so much better!

On my pedestal rests my two awards, my Cape Cod license plate, and my Cape Cod candle, which now holds international coins. Those awards are my two from my collegiate cross country career so far: Rookie Of The Year and Student Athlete. I'm wicked smahhht! Also on this bureau is another candle, a prayer card, my "blues jar", my lamp, and a gold-dipped rose. A Blues Jar is a mason jar filled with little notes that I look at when I'm feeling down.

OOTD: TURKEY DAY OOTD

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Or should I call it Black Thursday? I live in Massachusetts, where the blue laws stop stores and malls from opening before midnight on Black Friday. However, I live 10 minutes from New Hampshire, so that doesn't stop me!

That being said, I will take as much time with my friends and family this year to reflect, enjoy, eat, and relax. I'll probably end up going out at 11 or so anyway. I have mixed feelings about the whole deal, because I can see Thanksgiving slowly dwindling and turning into one of the only not-so-corporate holidays into one of the most corporate holidays of the year. I also feel for those poor retail workers (myself included, but not this year) who have to cut into their family time to set up shop and prepare for crazy customers. I can also see it as a day to score some great deals, though. The inner crazy couponer in me rejoices.

That unplanned rant aside, I'd love to show you my OOTD!

I love the elegance and girliness of this dress. I love a skater silhouette, and sometimes I'd rather have a high neckline than a low-cut one, especially when I'm going to see family. 


I also love the color of this dress as it compliments fall and these tights. Maroon is one of my favorite colors of the season.
It's Jackie's first thanksgivng with us and I'm so grateful for her!

STYLE: TOP FIVE BEST STORES TO SCORE A DEAL ON FALL FASHIONS

The everyday struggle for every college student is wanting to look great but not wanting to dig too deep into their pockets. I mean, there’s books and meal plans to pay for, right? However if you split up your money right, you can have enough money to feed you educational and fashion needs. The trick is shopping at the right places. It’s no secret that you don’t have to drop top dollar to look like it. But where exactly can you go?
I surveyed a group of pretty stylish Freshmen girls on my floor in Bowditch Hall, and we all came to a general consensus. All of these stores have the same characteristics: new emerging styles, great deals and finds, and cheap good quality jeans. As Market Basket would say, you get “more for your dollar.” Here are the stores that it came down to:

  • H&M
For those with a more classy style, or for those special events, H&M will have exactly what you need. Because of it’s European base, H&M not only has what’s trending in America, but what’s trending in Europe. This store has by far the best deals, where else can you find a perfect blazer to dress any look up for $24.95?
  • Target
Target is one of the least expecting places to get everything you need to meet your fashion and back to school needs. At first I was surprised when I saw beauty bloggers and YouTubers rave about finds from target, I at first was shocked. Then with some research I was surprised with the amount of great pieces they offer. It’s a great place to stock up on staple pieces such as jeans, moccasins, scarves, tees, and tanks.


  • Forever 21
Forever 21 has become a staple in itself for young women’s fashion. It doesn’t matter if your a star-studded celeb or a high schooler with a part-time job, if someone asks you where you got your adorable high waisted shorts, they’re most likely from Forever 21. The best thing about F21 is that it doesn’t leave anyone out - there’s mens, kids, and plus size. I've always been captivated by Forever 21's accessories, like these Lennon glasses. They're so original.

  • Charlotte Russe
Charlotte Russe is a sister store to Forever 21 it seems. Charlotte Russe has the biggest selection of shoes I’ve seen in any store of its kind. Also, it’s a great place to score jeans of all walks of life: colored, ripped, high waisted, or plain in any wash. CR also offers a student discount for anyone who shows a student ID as well!

Check out those deals! That leaves enough money for a pack or two of easy mac for between classes. 

  • TJ Maxx

No, I’m not biased because I happen to work at TJs... well maybe a little. But in my opinion, everyone should be a Maxxinista! Not only can you always get more for less at TJs, but they also offer home decor, shoes, jewelry, accessories, purses and luggage, juniors, mens, kids, and plus sizes. I always say it’s the least intimidating department store I’ve ever been to. Every time I work, I’m more and more amazed by how many high end named brands are offered for a fraction of the price!

SHOWCASE: Free People Photo Shoot

I was fortunate to receive some fabulous pictures from my good friend, Cade Johnson of his gorgeous friend Chloe, both from Souther California. He's an aspiring photographer and has let me use these breathtaking pictures for my blog. Today we'll be discussing (more like drooling over) her two spring outfits! The two looks featured below are perfect or a mild spring/early summer day, the best thing about them is that they are very versatile - perfect for stepping out during the day or going out at night. No matter the occasion, these looks will make a splash.

Three words I can use to describe this look is majestic Navajo princess. It's the right amount of subtle and pop, the right about of loose and structured, and definitely the perfect balance between tribal and beachy. The bandeau and high wasited shorts combo make for a perfect statement look for going out because these peices are both so low maintenance. No buttons to mess around with, no straps to pull up. I have no words for the shorts, they are my favorite part of the outfit. Okay, maybe I have a LOT of words for them. At first look, they seem to have the silhouette of an A-line skirt, I was tricked, too. However they're a pair of flattering shorts. The seamless look makes it look even more carefree. My final words for them are I NEED THEM.

 Here's some more pictures of the gorgeous model. Her outfit in the words of the photographer are "so spring I can't even" and I'd say I have to agree! So many things about this outfit are on trend. Where do I begin? Where I always do - the high waisted shorts. I probably own about 7 pairs and I plan on expanding my collection, however this post isn't about me. Her shorts are super high waisted (the higher the better in my case), and are perfectly bright and springy! The floral print is cohesive with typical spring trends. They're paired with a chambray tie tank that just makes the look melt together. Tie tanks are so fascinating to me. The high waisted shorts and the tied tank make the look so 80's retro, however the pink vans update it and color block beautifully. I'd say this is pretty in pastels. Her shirt is from Marshalls, the shoes with no surprise are from the vans store. It's safe to say we all need to stock up on a pair of vans this season.
