being alone

I DON'T MIND BEING ALONE, OKAY?

September 24, 2017

I don't mind being alone, damnit! I'm an only child, alright? I don't have a "thing" where I'm scared to be alone. I'd just rather drive alone sometimes so I can zone out to a podcast and not have the chance of someone playing something on the aux that makes me wanna choke on a pool stick.

Don't be worried for me, I'll be fine alone. It's bad enough eww have to share this intolerable life with other humans.

Okay, I'll admit some of that was a front. I love love love my friends and family and boyfriend, I miss them the moment I leave them. I'm a weak person, like we all are. I have a heart.

You know how some people are an introvert and some are an extrovert? I think I'm somewhere in the middle. Being around people doesn't drain me.. dealing with dumb people do. I wouldn't say it charges me up, however. It doesn't charge me up like a box of spinach and feta cheesy bread from dominos at 2AM, or people watching and counting how many un-ironic visors I see in a crowd.

One time I went to half of a day of a music festival alone, which I will admit - It wasn't intentional. I had just signed the offer letter on my first full time job, so I felt like irresponsibly draining my savings. "Nevermind a security deposit on my first place, mama's going to Boston Calling", I said!

I said "Chance the Rapper, the 1975, and awkwardly dodging strangers and golf carts for 48 hours? I'm in!!"

The possibility of taking an acid tab instead of an ibruprohein?? I'm in!!

My view from the muddy crowd to see Chance the Rapper. It was worth all the mud.
I was young and naive.. a few short months ago.. and I figured a few people I knew would be there! My friends excitedly saying "YASSS" in the group chat means they're definitely going in this screen-driven, terminator-esque world we live in where we can't communicate correctly.

My unintentional self-love date was Saturday. Luckily enough, Phoebe Robinson and Hannibal Buress were performing at the comedy tent that night.

A few takeaways I got from this experience, as I was sitting in the Harvard Athletic Complex, getting AstroTurf in my underwear, popping bubbles laced with who knows what, surrounded by millennials dancing and waiting for Chocolate by the 1975 to finally come on are:

  1. There are way too many people populating this earth
  2. Musical festivals are mostly getting there, waiting in line, and trying to find ways to avoid lines
  3. A real thing that can happen is: a family being taken to the hospital after getting too high from an edible
  4. What you don't see on Instagram is the physical and mental turmoil that is simply being alive
  5. Even if the band is your favorite and you know every word, something about the distorted speakers and background noise makes it really hard to sing along
Besides that, it was totally worth it. I'm making it sound worse for comedy purposes, it really was a great solo date night, and I recommend we all take ourselves on dates - intentional or not - more often. We need to take ourselves on dates more often and get to know ourselves.

DailyLook LBD Style Challenge

April 19, 2015

Eeep! As a blogger, you have one of those defining moments when a company/website you love contacts you. I just had mine with DailyLook! They asked me to use one of their LBD dresses to style a spring look and enter my Style Set in their competition.

Dailylook does my dream job every single day - they put outfits together for fun. I always turn to them when I'm in need of some outfit inspiration.

An LBD is obviously a staple in many women's closets', however I feel like I haven't really gotten myself a good LBD. I was browsing DailyLook's LBD section and I fell in love with the different ways DL thinks of an LBD. There was fringe, lace, maxi, mini - everything. I chose the Glamorous Patchwork Fringe Dress as my dress to base my outfit off of.

The inspiration behind this look is if I was going to Boston Calling. The lineup is just "eh" to me this year, so I've decided not to go. However, I would definitely rock this LBD if I went.

For concerts and music festivals, it's always a struggle figuring out what to wear. However, festivals are also a land of fashion freedom. A music festival would be a great step in integrating LBDs into my daily life. I styled this with ankle socks and booties, a tan leather backpack, and a gorgeous army green lapel jacket. Backpacks are a MUST for music festivals, and last year it was cold and rainy at Boston Calling, so the jacket would come in handy if this year is a repeat.

REVIEW: BOSTON CALLING MUSIC FESTIVAL DAY 1

May 25, 2014

I believe that nothing in this life is just a coincidence. In this post I will explain an example in my life that proves this, I'm writing this on a flight to Florida, my family and i are taking a vacation in gorgeous Key West this week. (Well, I hear it's gorgeous.) If you guessed that I'm running on little to no sleep, and hat I had a very stressful and early morning, you guessed right. However, I couldn't be happier right now.

The spring lineup for Boston Calling seems amazing, and I was so bummed about not going to see all of it. At first, I was so bummed about missing Bastille, Brand New, The Neighbourhood, the Head and the Heart, and more because of me being in Florida this weekend, but I may have discovered a favorite new artist of mine! So, my friend Ashley and I opted to just buy tickets for Friday night, where Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and Jack Johnson were playing.

At first I was less than thrilled, only knowing a few key Edward Sharpe songs and even fewer Jack Johnson songs. I also wasn't excited to have a late night followed by an early morning.

However right when you least expect it, life surprised you. Experiencing a concert in City Hall Plaza on a cool spring evening in my favorite city was just what I needed.

The set was so cool, with the big city hall steps, Coachella-esque stages, and the city lights. The crowd for the most part was chill, and the hilarious drunk people around us was enough entertainment for me.

But the music was the highlight! I like to listen to loud music on occasion, but I'm also a huge fan of folk. Tonight gave me a bigger appreciation for folk. The swaying crowd of shoulder sitters, singalongs, and flower crowns put me in a trance. Side note, I DID have the best and biggest flower crown there.

I'm also kicking myself for not listening to Jack Johnson! Just like a drunk girl exclaimed behind me, his music makes me so happy. I know that he's going to be my most abused iTunes Radio station.

Until the fall, Boston Calling.

Oh, in case you were wondering, here's the fall lineup:
