CHRISTMAS OOTD AND FOTD

December 29, 2015

Merry Christmas! It's time for the annual Christmas look of Dollar Store Diva. I feel like every year, my Christmas look changes with my style. If you've been following my blog, you've seen my style change throughout the years. However, most people go through style changes. This year everything is darker, slimmer, and smokier.

My OOTD:

Tank: White House Black Market
Shoes: ALDO
Necklace: Forever 21
Joggers: Kohls

I could get away with a tank top because it's unseasonably warm. I'd like to thank the Heat Miser and my lack of self-restraint.  I got this tank from work (WHBM) after the first shift I worked this break, and loved its simple elegance.

My FOTD:

Eyeshadow: LORAC Pro
Lips: MAC
Eyeliner: CoverGirl
Highlighter: Benefit "It Girl"
Blush: NYC Cinnamon

I got the Influenster VoxBox, for free, with the CoverGirl #Plumpify Mascara.
The #plumpify mascara has a bilayer wand for extra plumpness of my eyelashes. Here's a before and after picture:

You can also see a closeup of my winged eyeliner, highlighter at the corner of my eyes, and revlon eyebrow filler. I love the shape and definition this gives my eyelashes.

Here's a picture of our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day spread:

OOTD: A Lesson In Etiquette

March 09, 2015

Hello, lovelies! You know when you put an outfit together and outfit and you're just like, "this is totally blog-gable, I must blog this!" Or maybe that's just a blogger struggle...

This morning at our PRSSA meeting, we had an established manner coach, Jodi Smith, who has been on the Today Show, GMA, and more come and teach us some business etiquette. We thought it was appropriate to dress up in business casual attire. I thought I'd use a new-old sweater I found at a thrift shop for $5 this weekend, and the newest addition to my statement necklace collection to base my business casual outfit. PR is a trendy business atmosphere, so I thought since it was a PRSSA meeting I would have some room for trendiness.

Sweater: H&M, $5 thrifted
Necklace: Francesca's Collections $28
Pants: BDG for Urban Outfitters $40
Shoes: Payless $15

Love the mixing of  edgy and sweet using pearls and a chain.

STYLE: LUMBERJACK CHIC OOTD

December 16, 2014

I love winter fashion, I like to call it lumberjack chic (fingers crossed I get my bean boots for Christmas!) Here in the northeast, the options you have for bottoms are jeans or leggings. At least, that's what I've been feeling lately. However, I've been yearning to get out of my jeans and leggings slump.
While I was out Christmas shopping a few weekends ago, I saw these brown pants at H&M. I felt inspired o start looking for brown or tan corduroys or pants. I knew I'd probably be able to pair it with flannels, vests, button-downs, and sweaters.

As always, I looked around the other stores and struck out. I found myself back at H&M to try these on and buy them. These mustard brown slacks were on sale for $25.

I like how I feel dressed up but casual at the same time. I feel more put-together in these slacks.

Not to mention, I think it makes my butt look good ;). That's a very important unique selling proposition for me and pants!

I resurrected this cropped sweater from Forever 21 in my closet because I thought it would do splendidly.

I like that I can wear boots and socks or flats and sneakers with them.

It's a great staple piece to wear my favorite tops with - causal or dressy!

STYLE: TRANSITIONING INTO FALL

October 17, 2014

Fall means different things for different regions. Here in New England, it's usually a mix of balmy, freezing, and crisp temperatures with shortening days, pumpkins, apples, and the most breathtaking foliage in the US.

Salem-Marblehead Harbor from the lead mills bike path.

Lately, however, the weather has been more indecisive than me at a buffet. Last week was pretty much all cold days, this week it's going to look like summer. What does this weather call for outfit wise? Tights, cardigans, boots, dresses, scarves, aka layering pieces.

Dress - TopShop
Cardigan - Forever 21
Socks - Forever 21
Tights - Forever 21
Boots - Doc Martens

While picking out this outfit, I felt like focusing on three things: layering, fall neutrals, and comfort.
I think I succeeded on all my goals, right?

Don't mind the face... wind a sun...

The comfort of the cardigan was heavenly, and it added a texture difference in the outfit between the smooth dress and the course-looking cardigan.

These colors may be different however I think they all work together,

TELL ME: What are your favorite pieces to layer with in the fall?

Style: JACK VANEK TEAMS WITH ELEMENT FOR PACSUN!

July 22, 2013

Pacsun, Element, and Jac Vanek... three of  my favorite things when it comes to style all combined in one. I've said before that my style can be edgy from time to time, especially when I go to shows such as Warped Tour. In the summer, it's just easier to pull off this style by pairing high waisted shorts, a cropped muscle tank, a bandana and vans. My favorite designer to go to for muscle tanks, bralettes, and  crop tops is Jac Vanek. She started off designed the thick bracelets that had catchphrases like "Dream", "Legit", and more. Now, she's grown to be one of my fashion icons because of her fantastic style, determination, and success as a businesswoman. Here's a picture of me meeting her at the Mansfield  Warped Tour!

You can tell her style by her outfit, her muscle tank that says, "Math Sucks" and her huge cat eye sunglasses.  The whole Element x Jac Vanek like is about embracing your free spirit and youth. Live while you're young, basically! The clothes are as freeing as they look and are equally stylish. The line is both at Zumies and Pacsun. Here's the links and a few of my favorite pieces!

I adore the message and look of this tee. Just like every other piece in these collections, it's a bit trippy, stylish, but packs a punch. I might get this for myself for $27.95 at Zumiez! http://www.zumiez.com/element-x-jac-vanek-good-vibes-black-scoop-neck-tee-shirt.html

OOTD: Transitioning into Spring!

April 06, 2013

The first few weeks are an awkward transition - it's somewhat warm and sunny but the polar winds are lingering like a clingy ex. The weather seems to be bipolar, so that makes our clothes bipolar as well. Short sleeves or tanks with long sleeves, and sweaters with shorts. Personally, I think it's a fun way to re-work your winter pieces and slowly start breaking out our new spring finds! My outfit of today is a perfect example of this.

This winter i'd been stuck in a black and deers blood funk, however I must admit I'm not exactly ready to let go of my black and spikes yet. I've paired it with coral  - a huge spring color to transition!
OUTFIT: I couldn't wait to rock this black crop top from PLNDR. It's light, somewhat see-through (I'm wearing a black bandeau under), and actually has a hi-lo effect to it. I paired it with my coral skinnies from TJ Maxx ($17), however these are actually American Eagle jeans. I'm wearing my favorite black studded-toe shoes from Aldo ($21).
ACCESSORIES: The first bracelet you see is my new score from PacSun! ($5.90) It's studded however is coral and gold, so it's soft and edgy simultaneously. I round out my arm candy with one of my favorite bracelets from a boutique and my birthstone Alex and Ani. My necklace is my grandmother's.
Hair: Simple. Sock bun and a pink hair tie. A head wrap would go even better with this look   - I still need to find myself one!

I'm not wearing any makeup because it's the last night of the musical tonight and I'm saving my face for the immense amount foundatin, eyeliner, and lipstick that will be caked on later. Look for a  "show makeup routine" video on my channel later by my friend Ashley and I. Break a leg!

WHAT'S TRENDING: ROSCHER TEST DESIGN

November 12, 2012

This Summer I was in an H&M in france and I fell in love with a cute tight dress with light pink and purple undertones. The design was unique and unlike anything that's been around lately - it was flawlessly edgy yet elegant at the same time. It was a design that alluded to a "Roscher test design" or as I like to dub it the ink blot design.

This design is no longer just used in psychological patients, its been seen lately in Topshops, H&Ms, and runways all around. It can easily be made casual with a top with this design, leather leggings, and boots or studded flats. Or, you can dress it up by wearing a dress with peplums and the design and black pumps. Go find your favorite piece including the roscher design and accessorize accordingly!
