RECIPE: CITRUS STRAWBERRY BANANA SMOOTHIE

August 04, 2015

One of the most go-to flavors involving fruit is strawberry banana. Tart strawberries and tangy bananas soften each other out. I love having this flavor in things purchased in store or over the counter, however when I make myself a strawberry banana smoothie, I find myself disappointed. Of course, however, I always have strawberries and bananas in the house. I was craving a smoothie the other day, and upon reflection of the ingredients of my fridge, I found the answer to my strawberry banana blues: cut it with citrus! The addition of the lemon raspberry yogurt and the limes really make the flavor of this smoothie special.

When I make my lackluster strawberry banana smoothies I usually use a, you guessed it, strawberry banana yogurt. However, I'm glad I grabbed this one this time. It made me take an adventurous path.

The fruits in question: bananas and strawberries. Get ready to experience them like you never have before.

I really think it was the lime that made the difference in this dish. The acidity of the citrus cut the creamy thickness of the yogurt. I added a refreshing bite. It also added air of tropical-ness.

Ingredients
  • 2 limes
  • 2 banana
  • 4 strawberries
  • 1 package of Chobani 100 raspberry lemon
  • 1/2 cup of almond milk

Directions
1. Slice the banana and strawberries
2. Cut the lime in half
3. Add the yogurt, milk, and berries into the blender
4. Juice the limes over the mixture
5. Blend
6. Enjoy!

LIFESTYLE: MY CURRENT OBSESSION

August 29, 2014

For years I've strolled past these beautiful in huge bottles with italic script writing. I always thought that Bolthouse Farms juices and protein drinks were just another faux-healthy drink. Especially after the heartbreak of the Naked Juice fiasco of 2014, my health-nut heart was broken. Where was I to get my fruit and veggie fix when I was in a rush, or where could I get some all-natural caffeine and cocoa?

I believe I have found the answer.

Bolthouse makes Juices, smoothies, breakfast smoothies, carrots, and protein drinks. I love a good protein smoothie, but sometimes I'm too lazy to make one, or I'm not feeling the taste of gritty protein powder, so I leave it to my friends at Bolthouse.

Bolthouse Farms are carrot farmers, and their operation of making their products include using the whole vegetable - just like the Native Americans believed. Not only are their products antioxidant, beta carotene, and protein-packed, but they're environmentally friendly. Through the use of solar panels, no pesticides, GIS farming, and water and soil reclamation, they know a thing or two about social corporate responsibility.

This post isn't sponsored in anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know about my newest obsession! I picked the Protein- Plus Coffee one at Hannafords the other day post-run and I was hooked. The big one lasted me two whole days. The big ones are double size of Naked juices and are only $3.65 (at Market Basket.)

Just some food for thought. Have you ever tried them? let me know!

Lifestyle: Blueberry Banana Meal Smoothie!

June 03, 2013

I don't know about you, but summer is a motivation for me to eat clean! The warm sun is motivation for me to be more active, and beach weather makes me aspire to have a body that's beach ready. Eating clean has become a lifestyle for me, and it should be for you too! The key is to make it  a lifestyle though, not a routine.  Routine can ruin the wonder of everything. That's the key to it: don't just eat salads every day, switch it up with different recipes. Here's one that'll be sure to be a new favorite!

BLUEBERRY BANANA MEAL SMOOTHIE
When I wake up, especially on slow summer mornings, my favorite thing to do is run. This may come from going to cross country summer practices at 7 am three times a week in high school, or early track and cross country meets, but running first thing is the best way to wake you up. Way more effective than an iced coffee! The dew is fresh on the grass, and  the world is just waking up. You're also not tired from the rest of your day. You should feel great when you get back, because you already got a great work out in, and are on an endorphin rush that should leave you energized for the rest of the day.

How about a post-workout pick me up? I like to eat greek yogurt with bananas, however what if I blended them together for a meal-replacing smoothie? Genius!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup to 1 1/2 cup (or just a serving) of vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/3 cup almond milk if needed

That's all you need! And guaranteed, it's going to be ten times more delicious than chocolate chip pancakes and bacon, I promise!

Hint: summer is the best season for blueberries! :)

How to:

It's simple enough, just put all of your ingredients in the blender and blend until it's at the consistency you'd like! I'd advise doing it first without the almond milk, then adding some if it needs to be loosened up. Tip: Crushed ice works best to avoid ice chunks!

Doesn't it looks delectable! It's the perfect post-work out treat. If you want to sit and enjoy, maybe top it off with some low-fat granola to add the illusion of a parfait. Enjoy it as you watch the Today Show or put it in a portable cup and take it with you on the go! It'll satisfy you until lunch. Eat clean!
